Baptisms in the River

Singing the song “Gonna lay down my burdens.  Down by the riverside.  Down by the riverside.  Down by the riverside.  Gonna lay down my burdens.  Down by the riverside…” has a real meaning.  78 people were baptized in the river and into the SDA church.  Three of these 78 were from our staff.  The choir was singing, the water was cold and the wind was blowing.  It was a beautiful experience to see these people come to the river to be baptized.

We started by gathering at the church.  The few vehicles were packed with people (the typical African way).  Then after parking we walked on through the bush to the water.

The minister asked a series of questions and the people raised their hands to respond.  One older lady could not stand so she sat in the front of the others.

The choir and all sang while everyone was walking into the water.  Each baptism was beautiful and we know that each person was blessed.

Join us in praying for all of those that came to Jesus!

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.  Matthew 28:19-20

Rugby

The children at Zion love sports.  They have been playing soccer, basketball and a little net ball for some time.  Now, a Rugby coach has come to the school to teach them this sport.  He comes with all the equipment for them to use and has ordered us equipment that can stay at the school and be used to practice once they learn the game.  Then the tournaments will be scheduled.  What fun!!!

Boat Ride on the Zambezi

Sometimes we HAVE to take the boat because of flooding and sometimes we just need to drive the boat to keep it running.  So, that was our excuse to take the children out for a Sunday afternoon boat ride.

First the driver needs to make sure the boat will start.  Then the riders need to put on a life jacket.  Then they all load the boat.

And off we go!  We are always searching for something interesting… crocodiles, monkeys, birds mostly hippos.  Those hippos were just peaking at us wondering what these weird people were doing.

The driver always has willing little ones to assist!

The ones that were in the second group were waiting on the bank.  Some were cheering in their friends that were on the first boat.

After all are back from their ride, we put the boat to “bed” and thank God for the beauty of the earth and for His love and mercies daily, for safety and for His many blessings and for this place, Children of Zion Village!
